PARTICIPANTS: Get yourself sponsored and visit as many (or as few) churches on the 9th September between 10am and 6pm as you can. Plan your own route and enjoy visiting some of our fabulous churches. The vast majority of them will be open on the day and in some, refreshments are available.
It is open to all participants – young and old. The money raised is divided equally between the local sponsored church and Herefordshire Historic Churches Trust. Any Christian Church can apply to the Trust for financial help to maintain or improve the church building. Each year the Trust awards grants totaling £80,000. Ride and Stride is just one way in which the Trust raises money to help them. Half of what you raise in sponsorship goes to the church of your choice, the other plus any Gift Aid recoverable goes to the Trust. You can visit churches by cycle, by foot or by any means that you wish! Horse, wheelchairs, coracles and even vintage cars have been used and have been welcomed.
As a thank you to our participants, a ‘yellow jersey’ emblazoned with the Bike Ride logo will be awarded to the young cyclist or walker (aged 16 or under) who raises the most sponsorship in each deanery area. The person who raises the largest sum from sponsorship will also receive a yellow jersey. All young cyclists and walkers will receive certificates.
Do take part. This is a chance to raise some money for your local church, take some exercise and visit some wonderful churches. For example, come and see the work of the Norman Herefordshire School of Sculpture at Kilpeck, Castle Frome and Eardisley which is nationally acclaimed.
